Winter Canoeing at Alta Lake

When it comes to Whistler winter adventures, we saved the best for last! Right before the snow started coming down like craaaazy, we were able to get out on the water for some much-needed peace and quiet. And boy did we get lucky! There wasn't anybody else out there (probably because a couple degrees colder and it would start to freeze...brrr).

Whistler has a ton of lakes that are popular both in summer and winter (ice hockey, anyone?), and there's tons of snowboarding and cross-country trails around Lost Lake. We had originally planned to go there, but it was frozen so....Alta Lake it was! And oh my, is it ever gorgeous.

There's tons of beautiful cabins and winter homes all along the lake, and we quickly started to daydream about living here one day. Who wouldn't want to snuggle up at a fire and look out at this view?

Once we were out on the water, it was surprisingly warm and we didn't even need our jackets! Kind of weird, but not as crazy as the wild fog that was rolling through the valleys of the mountains. The whole day was picture perfect, and if you like chill canoeing, this is definitely the spot to visit! We should note though, that most boat rental companies are closed this time of year (we had to do a lot of persuading after we got a local's number from our waiter...long story) so it's probably best to BYOB. Bring your own boat is a thing, right?
