The Ace Hotel, DTLA

When you book a stay at The Ace Hotel, you know it's going to be a good trip. Whether you're in Portland, New York, Palm Springs, (the list goes on) you're guaranteed to have delicious food, beautiful rooms, and it's most likely you'll return home with a cool new friend or three. There's a bunch of awesome places to stay in LA, but if you're wanting to stay in the downtown core, The Ace Hotel DTLA is a great choice, especially if you're staying over a weekend - nothing like taking an elevator down to your room after a night at the hottest rooftop bar in town. Here's a bit of our recent visit!

The Ace Hotel DTLA opened in 2014 in the historic United Artists building, which was built all the way back in 1927. The Ace is firmly an "it" place to be in DTLA now, and not just for those visiting. That's probably why we love it - the bar, restuarant, and rooftop are full of locals.

It’s fitting that this is home to visiting and local creatives alike, as the original building was founded by United Artists who ushered in a creative movement to the neighborhood and city. Because of this history, you’ll feel a bit of 1920’s Hollywood glamour mixed in with the modern minimalism that the Ace is known for.

Inspired by Hollywood's famous Les Deux Cafe, the in-house restaurant LA Chapter is both beautiful and delicious, with a menu centred around locally sourced vegetables and seafood. Next to the lobby you’ll find the “Coffee Counter” which is ready to serve you Stumptown everyday from 6am-11pm, so good coffee is always closeby! Phewf. If you want to take a short walk though, head over to Verve Coffee down the street!

When it comes to the rooms, they're all beautiful, bright, and delightful. LA's hotel rooms typically run pretty small, but the space is really well designed that you wouldn't want it any way. Plus, there's a variety of room sizes to choose from, and they're all quite different from each other. We opted for a medium room! You'll also find a record player in every single room, along with an amazing, hip mini-bar that is actually reasonable (for a mini-bar).

Other essentials include free wifi that actually works, free bicycles to ride around town on, a 24 hour gym, and a small rooftop pool.

"Upstairs” is the chill bar located, you guessed it, upstairs. The hip rooftop bar is open to both hotel guests and LA locals, and there's always something going on upstairs. Especially on weekends: a long line forms downstairs to get in to the outdoor elevator entrance, but the great thing about being a guest is that your room key takes you directly upstairs from your floor. No line, no problem. We took a few friends with us and had a blast!

Whether you're here to work or play, The Ace Hotel DTLA is definitely the place to be! While you're here, don't forget to check out our DTLA and Arts District neighborhood guides here.
