Best Travel Apps: Find Cheap Flights with Skyscanner

Exciting news: we’re going to Bali over the holidays! 🎉 We can’t wait to take Local Wanderer “international” and wander for two weeks in the jungle and on the beach. So if you’ve been to Bali and have recommendations, please send them to us!

Trying to plan a trip to somewhere we’ve never been (and somewhere so far away) has definitely made us aware of so many of the challenges of trying to research and book a trip. So, we’ve decided to share our experience and travel hacks with you guys in the hopes that whenever you want to plan your next trip, it will be easier for you! First up: trying to book international flights.

Find Cheap Flights with Skyscanner

We have our favorite airlines that we like to travel with within North America (we’re trying to be better with the points!), but when it came time to travel internationally, we knew that we didn’t want to fork out thousands of dollars more just to stick with a preferred airline. We wanted a deal!

To book our flights to Bali, we used Skyscanner, which is a travel search engine that makes it super easy for you to not only search flights, but you can compare them against other travel sites like Expedia and Priceline too, so you know you’re getting the best deal! You can use Skyscanner on the web, or on your phone with the Skyscanner mobile apps.

Whenever you first do a search for cheap flights, you might be overwhelmed with all the options! One of our favorite Skyscanner features is that you can filter by flight duration and the number of stops, which is super important when you’re doing a long-haul flight. For us, we decided it was better to land in Taipei at night and have a 9hr layover (where we could go sleep in an airport hotel for a bit) rather than have a 6hr layover in the middle of the day.

If you’re not in a rush to book, you can also set up a Skyscanner price alert to track prices, which is super handy for letting you know when prices have decreased. Or, if you start to notice they are creeping up by a few dollars, you’ll know you want to buy now before they go up more.

Go Everywhere

Feeling like you have to get away but don’t know where you want to go, or don’t really care? Do a quick search with Skyscanner’s “Everywhere” feature to see a ton of possibilities from your home airport, and they’re all filtered by price so you can see the best deals!

This post is in partnership with our friends at Skyscanner, which we’ve been using for years!
